Analysing some 4.2 million dysentery cases across China between 2005 and 2020, researchers writing in Nature Cities found that cities implementing sponge-city works - wetlands, permeable pavements, green space - saw flood-related disease risk fall by up to 12.2% three years on, with the biggest gains where existing infrastructure was weakest.
