NEW DELHI: "What will Delhi look like in 2047?" A new citizen portal, Delhi 2047 Decoded, sets out to answer exactly that - translating the Master Plan for Delhi 2047, notified on August 20, into plain language that residents can actually use.
Developed by Katha, this newspaper's publisher, with technical support from Cities Forum, the portal offers an interactive land-use map built on OpenStreetMap so Delhiites can find their own neighbourhood, documentation mapped to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the plan's headline numbers in context: a projected population of 32 million by 2047 and a need for some 4 million homes. Sections cover transport expansion, air and water quality, and the policy instruments meant to deliver the plan's promise to "foster a sustainable, liveable and vibrant Delhi." The portal is independent and not government-endorsed; the DDA has separately released a GIS-based interactive land-use map on its own site.
The DDA approved the plan on August 12 and unveiled it on August 20; the portal bets that a plan residents can actually read is a plan more likely to be delivered. Second leader, Page 7.
